What programs does SEEDS offer?

SEEDS offers three programs: The Scholars Program, for students in grades 7-8. The Young Scholars Program, for students in grades 5-6. And the College Preparatory Program for students in grades 9-12.

The Scholars Program takes place over a 14-month period, beginning in the summer after seventh grade, continuing on Saturdays during the eighth grade year, and culminating in a five-week boarding experience during the summer between eighth and ninth grade. The Scholars Program is open to students who live in the state of NJ.

Young Scholars participate in a 24-month program which begins on Saturdays during fifth grade, continues for four weeks during the summer after fifth grade, Saturdays during sixth grade, and culminates with a three-week summer program and overnight retreat the summer before seventh grade. The Young Scholars Program is only open to Newark-area students.

College Preparatory Program Scholars participate in a five-year program that begins the summer prior to ninth grade. The College Preparatory Program is only open to students who reside in Orange, NJ or Englewood, NJ.

Who is eligible to participate in the SEEDS programs?

Students in the fourth grade (Young Scholars Program) or seventh grade (Scholars Program) who are at the top of their class academically may apply for admission to the SEEDS program. Eighth-grade students who plan to attend either Dwight Morrow High School or Orange High School may apply for admission to the College Preparatory Program. To participate, students must come from a family with an income of $59,000 or less for a family of four. The income cap increases by $5,000 for every additional family member. Students must meet certain residence requirements that vary by program.

When do students apply to SEEDS?
