David Allyn, Ph.D.
Director of Development

David Allyn joined the staff of NJ SEEDS in 2003 and has since worked in a variety of capacities. He helped create and design the Leadership Institute and College Preparatory Program; managed the 2005 Long Range Planning Process; oversaw the 2004 redesign of the website and led the communications team in redesigning the SEEDS Logo in 2006. As the Director of Development, David is responsible for raising $2 million through the annual fund and serves as the staff liaison to the Development Committee, Committee on Trustees, Major Gifts Committee, and Long Range Planning Committee and also sits on the College Preparatory Program and Finance Committees. He graduated from Brown University in 1991 and earned his Ph.D. from Harvard in 1996. He taught for three years at Princeton and then worked for various educational organizations including Prep for Prep, the New York City Board of Education, Seeds of Peace, and The After School Corporation. He is the author of I Can t Believe I Just Did That (a study of embarrassment and its effects on interpersonal interaction); Make Love, Not War (a narrative history of the sexual revolution of the 1960's) and The College Students Guide to Transferring Schools. His essays have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post and The Advocate. He has spoken at conferences and symposia around the country and is a trustee of CLAGS at the CUNY Graduate Center.
