| History |
NJ SEEDS was formed to address a problem seen by many who work in the education field: too often, public school students are actively recruited by independent schools, but begin their experience so far behind academically, that their future success is jeopardized.
At a ground-breaking meeting in 1992, a group of independent school administrators, educational experts and business leaders created what is now New Jersey SEEDS. Today, SEEDS is a privately funded, state-wide, non-profit organization committed to developing future leaders through education.
The first class of SEEDS Scholars graduated from the program in 1994.
In 2002 SEEDS introduced the Young Scholars Program to address the well-documented problem of the "fifth grade cliff." Today, SEEDS Young Scholars alumni attend prestigious day schools throughout New Jersey.
A major initiative was launched in 2004 to introduce leadership development into the SEEDS Scholars Program curriculum. That same summer, students in the Class of 2005 participated in the first ever Leadership Week at the Princeton-Blairstown Center in Blairstown, NJ.
Since 1998, SEEDS has been under the direction and guidance of Executive Director Amy Ziebarth, recipient of the Althea Gibson Award for Excellence in Public Service, the Kent Place Alumna Award for Professional Achievement, and the Delbarton School Educator of the Year Award. |
